The role
The Senior Shopify Developer role is a pivotal position within our expanding development team, directly reporting to our development management team. This role underscores your exceptional ability to create rich, accessible, and optimized websites using modern HTML, CSS, Liquid, and presentational JavaScript techniques. You will also play a crucial role in mentoring and supporting a team of front and back-end developers with your extensive knowledge and experience.
This role is ideal for a highly skilled developer with a proven track record of delivering top-tier Shopify eCommerce projects. You will possess strong problem-solving skills, understand the intricacies of building mobile-first with progressive enhancement across various devices and screen sizes, and have a deep understanding of the latest web design and development technologies. A passion for continuous learning and professional growth is essential.
As a Senior Shopify Developer at Herd, you will lead innovative projects alongside our development and digital marketing experts. From the outset, you will be driving standards and fostering innovation.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the development and maintenance of Shopify eCommerce websites
- Champion mobile-first development for multiple devices and screen sizes
- Utilize HTML5, CSS/SCSS, Liquid, and JavaScript to create dynamic websites
- Apply your expertise to develop a range of non-ecommerce dynamic websites
- Attend and contribute to client briefings and web development meetings
- Translate client requirements into functional and visually appealing websites
- Stay ahead of upcoming Shopify platform changes and trends
- Maintain a high level of knowledge and understanding of the latest frontend development trends
- Oversee the development lifecycle of projects from inception to go-live and beyond
- Mentor and support the development team, sharing your knowledge and experience
- Drive forward standards and best practices within the team

Full-time or part-time

Qualifications
We're more interested in the quality of your industry experience, however a relevant qualification or degree in web development / software engineering would also be beneficial.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of developing web sites or related experience
- Excellent organisational skills – the ability to manage multiple projects and projects for our clients
- Demonstrable Shopify build experience using latest HTML5, CSS/SCSS, Liquid and ES6+ JavaScript techniques
- Excellent understanding of UI/UX processes and best practices
- Excellent understanding of Git version control
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
- Experience working to a client brief
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Nice to haves
- Experience with NPM, Gulp and Webpack
- Experience with Umbraco
- Knowledge of other server-side / templating languages
- Experience working within a digital / eCommerce agency
