New POS home screen layout for tablets

There is a new split screen layout for the home screen in the Shopify POS app. Product searches and customers now appear alongside your cart to allow for quicker cart building and managing. It’s also easier to access your preferred search method.

Further home screen improvements include:

  • Always visible cart – negates need for scrolling or toggling between tabs
  • Optimised search – minimises the steps you need to take to add items to your cart, using global search, the Smart grid, or scanning barcodes
  • Search results interaction – add results like products and customers to the cart by tapping the line item

Changes to draft orders

Shopify updates in July featured several enhancements for draft orders.

Invoices with payment terms

If you’re selling to B2B customers, you can now send invoices for draft orders with payment terms.

This gives customers the chance to review their negotiated cart and prices before placing their order.

Customers will only be required to pay the invoice when it’s due, which will be dictated by the payment terms assigned to the order or their account.

App updated

The draft orders section in the Shopify App now aligns more closely with the web version following several updates. New features that were previously unavailable on the app have been unlocked, including:

  • Applying discount codes to draft orders
  • Metafields support
  • Bundles
  • Inventory reservation for items in draft orders
  • Local Delivery and Local Pickup added as shipping options
  • Product selection screen filtering
  • App actions on completed draft orders can be duplicated or completed
  • Changing product quantities workflow improved
  • Viewing product details workflow improved

Use apps with compatible UI extensions

Shopify Plus merchants can now use apps with compatible UI extensions in draft order checkouts.

Apps need to be updated to the latest UI extension version to be compatible, as it allows the extension to react to restrictions like un-editable cart lines or discounts.

Connect suppliers at scale

Retailers can now easily connect with suppliers via Shopify Collective.

A custom link can be retrieved in Collective Settings which will connect the shops and bypass the typical approval phase. This will mean suppliers can start sharing products immediately through a price list and retailers can pick which products to import.

There is no minimum sales requirement for invited suppliers – as is the case with other direct invite methods on Shopify.

Examples of the Shopify B2B service

Filter B2B customer data faster

Shopify Plus merchants can now quickly find B2B customers by filtering company and company location metafields on the Companies Index and Company Details page.

3D model and video hosting amended

In a change that was rolled out at the start of July, all 3D models and videos are now served from a store’s domain.

For example: ‘custom-domain.com/cdn/3dmodel/filename’.

Images were only served from a store’s domain previously, but this tweak will improve SEO keyword attribution weight for stores using 3D models and videos.

Cash tracking across locations

Cash tracking reports are now available in a multi-location view in the POS channel.

This improved visibility means merchants can compare cash coming in and out of all locations in a single view in the admin.

The idea is that identifying outlier stores and other discrepancies will be much easier.

Search workflows from resource admin pages

There is now the ability to search for Flow workflow runs in the admin pages for each resource.

In the Order, Draft Order, Customer, Product, Product Variant, and Collection pages, you can now click ‘More actions’ and then ‘Search Flow runs’.

This improves visibility of how workflows interact with other areas of your operation and allows for easier streamlining and optimisation.

Migration to hCaptcha begins

Shopify has begun migrating from Google reCAPTCHA to hCaptcha on storefronts to minimise form abuse.

No action is required from merchants – customers will now see the hCaptcha badge instead of the reCAPTCHA badge when interacting with a protected form.

Automated privacy features

Automated privacy features are now available to all merchants. When turned on, these settings will mean:

  • Privacy policies are automatically generated and maintained
  • A cookie banner is added and synced with the latest recommendations
  • A data sales opt-out page is added and synced with the latest recommendations

Metaobjects created for form submissions

Submissions from the Shopify Forms app can now be viewed in the admin.

Matching metaobjects are created when a form is created. When a new submission comes in, an entry will be written to that metaobject.

This means you don’t have to search through customer records for a specific submission and instead view all submissions in one place.

Credit notes for invoice changes

Changes made to a Shopify invoice – a total or partial cancellation of charges - will now generate a credit note.

An associated refund mechanism for credit notes will either refund to the original payment method or Shopify Account Credits. These are post-bill credits and can only be applied to charges on future invoices.

Credit notes will appear in the Billing section in the admin, where they can be viewed and downloaded.
