Tell us a little bit about yourself
As a Senior SEO Lead at Herd, I help clients thrive organically, digging deep into user insights and research to provide organic strategies.
I haven’t always been into marketing – I have a Biology degree, which involved spending most of my time in labs rather than Excel spreadsheets. I think the deep research needed in my current SEO role attracted me to it, as there’s a lot naturally involved in science.
I am also a keen traveller, having backpacked around the world for a total of 3 years. Nowadays backpacks have been switched with nappies, focusing on more local family travel.
What have you been up to so far?
Focusing and adapting, coming from a larger agency to a smaller one. It’s been great and I’ve had the opportunity to learn a lot more in a short space of time than I would have within a larger agency.
The opportunity to work on a more diverse set of clients has also been enjoyable.
What have you learned about the world of marketing that you didn’t know before starting?
I have a lot more understanding of how to use the research we gather and communicating this to clients, in order for them to be excited and invest. Previously, I could get stuck on showing how clicks and impressions have increased, but the client just wants to know how this equates into money and ROI. There is a nice balance to communicate.
What are you hoping to achieve in the next six months?
Building my knowledge and understanding of other aspects of marketing. How we, as marketers and an agency, can incorporate different departments effectively, providing a better service to clients.
Quickfire round
Who would be a dream client to work with?
Manchester United. The greatest football club in the world.
What is your favourite piece of stationery?
A notepad, or more specifically an online notepad. Never trust your memory, write everything down.
Tea or coffee?
Even though I do like a morning mocha (proper coffee that), it has to be tea. Yorkshire Tea of course.
Favourite marketing tool?
Screaming Frog – makes my life so much easier digging into the technicalities of a website.
Favourite podcast?
There are a few, but I won’t sit on the fence. The Joe Rogan Podcast. The variety of guests are great, and I enjoy the casual, non-edited approach.
