Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute to do this deed
And tell you how I became a Digital Marketing Lead
Okay, so I am not one for songwriting, but I am a specialist in content and PR.
My name is Becky, or as everyone else refers to me as Bones – yes there's always been at least two Becky's wherever I have worked, so Bones it is then.
I've been working within the fast-paced digital environment for over five years now. Like with most jobs, there's been ups and downs, but I'm pleased to say when there's a high, it really is high!
Starting my new role
September 2019 has been a whirlwind and I've loved every minute of it, getting stuck in at Meta and finding my feet within the team.
My first week was very welcoming. We played a ‘getting to know you' game, I received a lovely personalised notebook (I'm a bit of a stationery geek) and a big box of Thornton's chocolates!
Getting to know the team was pretty easy going as I already knew three members, having previously worked with Dan, Pete and Gareth. It did feel like ‘coming home' – a bit like putting on an old pair of slippers.
My first challenge was a very important one – the tea round! Everyone here at Meta are huge Yorkshire Tea fans, so I had to do it justice and make sure everyone received the perfect cuppa!
We have had lots of internal meetings in my first month, all of which have been very useful. These meetings have helped me get an understanding of how the agency works and what activity has been carried out and is ongoing. It's great to get the full picture and see where I could fit in, where I can add value and demonstrate my previous experience.
I think it's really important to share successes and failures, as most people would agree, you won't be able to improve if you don't experience failures!
The best bits
I love being in this industry. Staying up to date with all the latest trends and discovering new, innovative campaigns all the time. My favourite part of the role is that I get to be creative, pushing the boundaries and take a step into the unknown. No two days are ever the same in agency life!
In my first month at Meta we have had two campaigns signed off, which are now in full swing and we have been busy securing coverage for our clients.

On Friday 27th September we celebrated Macmillan Coffee Morning in style by inviting our neighbours at Waterside Business Park round to try our scrumptious home bakes. There was a great selection from gingerbread elephants, smartie cookies and the most magnificent carrot cake I've ever tasted! It was great to see how much effort everyone put in, with every single person getting involved in the bakes. This really showed the amount of teamwork involved here and demonstrated our inclusive environment, which was wonderful to see.
This month we are having team PIE day, and I believe Hull Pie makes some of the best pies in Yorkshire. We've got team bowling (I do think Dan and Tim have a slight advantage as they even have their own bowling balls) and our Christmas party is all booked in – just need to find a dress now!
I have felt that working in a smaller team is so much more rewarding. I was keen to secure a role that was broad enough to cover a range of different aspects of SEO. I like to see things from start to finish, comprising the strategy and delivering the activity. There's no better reward than seeing your ideas come to life!
What's next?
What do I want for the future? I am keen to become a leader and share my knowledge with others. I'd love to one day have the confidence and knowledge to able to get up on a stage and present my learnings to a large group of people in a conference setting (I have my eyes on Brighton SEO).
I'm so excited to see our clients grow, the agency grow and to grow with them. I'm ready to make new connections, learn new things and start winning awards for Meta!
